  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream or evaporated milk
  • 3 tablespoons (42 g) butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Caramel Frosting (Buttercream):

  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups (360 g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) caramel sauce (from the filling above)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk or cream (as needed for consistency)
