1. Prepare the Bread Pudding
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt.
- Add the bread cubes to the mixture and gently toss until all the bread is soaked with the custard mixture. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
- Fold in the diced apples, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the bread mixture.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
2. Prepare the Crumble Topping
- In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cubed cold butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix the ingredients until you have a crumbly texture.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the bread pudding.
3. Bake the Bread Pudding
- Bake the bread pudding for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set (a knife inserted in the center should come out clean).
- Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving.
4. Serve
- Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra indulgent treat!
