Bacon Cheeseburger Grilled Cheese Casserole

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to ensure the casserole doesn’t stick during baking.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat from the skillet and set the beef aside.
  3. Add the chopped cooked bacon and diced onion to the same skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion is soft and translucent. Stir the bacon and onion into the cooked ground beef, mixing well. Season with salt and pepper to taste. This mixture will be the flavorful base of the casserole.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. This egg-milk mixture will help bind the casserole together and create a rich, custard-like texture when baked.
  5. Cube the bread into bite-sized pieces. Place the bread cubes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly. Then, pour the beef and bacon mixture over the bread cubes, spreading it out evenly across the dish.
  6. Top the beef mixture with the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. The cheddar will give the casserole a sharp, rich flavor, while the mozzarella adds a gooey, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  7. Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the casserole, ensuring the bread is fully soaked. Press down gently on the bread cubes to make sure they absorb the mixture and become soft during baking.
