For the Chocolate Cake:
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- ΒΎ cup (75 g) cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1Β½ teaspoons baking soda
- Β½ teaspoon salt
- 1Β½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
- 1 cup (240 ml) hot coffee or water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Caramel Filling:
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- ΒΌ cup (60 ml) water
- Β½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream or evaporated milk
- 3 tablespoons (42 g) butter
- Β½ teaspoon salt
- Β½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Caramel Frosting (Cream):
- 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups (360 g) powdered sugar
- Β½ cup (120 ml) reserved caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 2β3 tablespoons milk or cream (to adjust consistency)
