  1. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, flour, cornstarch, and sugar until smooth.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened like custard (about 5–7 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the egg yolks and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Allow to cool completely to room temperature. Then beat in the softened butter using a hand or stand mixer until light, creamy, and spreadable.

3️⃣ Assemble the Cake:

  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread half or more of the cream evenly over the surface.
  2. Top with the second cake layer and spread the remaining cream over the top and optionally on the sides.
  3. Sprinkle with grated chocolate or sifted cocoa powder for a beautiful finish.
  4. Chill in the refrigerator for 1–2 hours before slicing for best results.

  • Let all ingredients come to room temperature for a smoother batter and cream.
  • Don’t rush the custard filling—it needs to thicken properly before adding butter.
