Ingredients
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened (for the creamy cheesecake layer)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (to sweeten the cheesecake layer)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for flavor in the cheesecake layer)
- 2 cups heavy cream (for the whipped topping)
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for sweetening the whipped cream)
- 2 cups brownies, crumbled or cut into cubes (a rich, fudgy base)
- 12-15 Oreo cookies, crushed (for the crunchy layer)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional, for extra chocolatey goodness)
Instructions
- Prepare the cheesecake layer: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth and creamy. You can use an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer to make this process easier. The mixture should be lump-free and velvety. If the cream cheese is too firm, let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before mixing to ensure a smoother texture.
- Whip the cream: In a separate chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until soft peaks form. The whipped cream should be fluffy but still hold its shape when the beaters are lifted. Be careful not to overwhip, as it can turn into butter. Once the whipped cream is ready, gently fold it into the cream cheese mixture. This will give the cheesecake layer its light, airy texture.
- Prepare the brownies: If you’re using homemade brownies, bake and cool them first. You can either bake them from scratch or use store-bought brownies for a quicker option. Once cooled, cut the brownies into small cubes or crumble them into large chunks. You want them to be bite-sized so they layer well in the trifle dish.
- Crush the Oreos: Crush the Oreo cookies into rough pieces using a rolling pin, food processor, or your hands. You want a mix of small and larger pieces for texture. The Oreo crumbs will provide a nice contrast to the soft, creamy layers of cheesecake and brownies.
- Assemble the trifle: In a large trifle dish or individual serving glasses, begin by layering the brownies at the bottom. The brownie layer will be rich and dense, creating a solid foundation for the rest of the dessert. Then, add a layer of the cheesecake mixture, smoothing it evenly over the brownies. Follow this with a layer of crushed Oreos for some crunch and added flavor. Repeat the layers until you run out of ingredients, finishing with a layer of cheesecake mixture on top. Be sure to leave a little space at the top of the trifle dish for the whipped cream and any additional garnishes.
- Top with whipped cream: Once all layers are assembled, top the trifle with a generous dollop of freshly whipped cream. Spread it evenly across the top, covering the entire surface. You can either pipe the whipped cream for a decorative finish or spread it flat. If desired, sprinkle the top with some additional crushed Oreos, chocolate chips, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an extra touch of indulgence.
- Chill and serve: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. Chilling allows the flavors to meld together and the dessert to set. Once ready to serve, scoop out portions into bowls or serve directly from the trifle dish. Enjoy this indulgent, layered treat!
