Classic Apple Crisp (Warm & Cozy Dessert) <

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prepare for the apple filling and crumble topping.
  2. Prepare the apples. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated with the sugar and spices. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the topping. In another bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces, and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This step is key to creating the perfect crumble topping.
  4. Assemble the crisp. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish. Make sure to cover the apples completely with the crumble topping.
  5. Bake the crisp. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender. You’ll know it’s done when the crisp is nicely browned and the apples are soft.
  6. Serve. Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly comforting treat!

Serving Notes

This apple crisp is best served warm, right out of the oven, but it also makes great leftovers that can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven to restore its warm, comforting texture. The combination of tender apples, cinnamon-spiced crumble, and vanilla ice cream makes this a perfect dessert for any occasion.
