: Classic Black Forest Cake

Preparation

1️⃣ Cake

  1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 175°C and grease a 22–24 cm round cake pan. Lining the bottom with parchment paper helps ensure the cake releases cleanly.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. This ensures even distribution of dry ingredients and breaks up any cocoa clumps for a smoother batter.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk until the mixture becomes smooth and cohesive. The batter should thicken slightly as it comes together.
  4. Add boiling water: Slowly pour in the hot water. The batter will become very runny—this is normal and helps create a moist, tender crumb once baked.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the center springs back when gently pressed. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
