Classic Coffee Cake Recipe – The Perfect Morning Treat!


Make the Cake:

1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan or line with parchment paper.

2️⃣ In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3️⃣ In a separate bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the sour cream and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.

4️⃣ Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Make the Streusel Topping:

5️⃣ In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and flour.

6️⃣ Add the cold butter cubes to the mixture and use a pastry cutter or your hands to blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

7️⃣ Stir in the walnuts if using.

Assemble the Coffee Cake:

8️⃣ Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

9️⃣ Sprinkle half of the streusel topping over the batter.

🔟 Add the remaining cake batter and spread it evenly over the streusel layer. Finally, top with the remaining streusel topping.

Bake and Serve:

1️⃣ Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

2️⃣ Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
