Instructions
- Prepare the beef patties. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, black pepper, salt, onion powder, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until everything is evenly incorporated. Shape the mixture into thick patties, pressing gently to ensure they hold together well during cooking.
- Cook the patties and onions. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the skillet, cooking for 3–4 minutes on each side until they are nicely browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a plate. Keep them warm while you prepare the gravy. In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for 5–7 minutes, or until the onions become soft and golden brown.
- Make the gravy. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet, stirring to coat the onions evenly. Use a fork to scrape up any flavorful bits from the bottom of the skillet. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring continuously until the gravy begins to thicken. Season with seasoned salt and stir to combine. Let the gravy simmer for 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken to your desired consistency.
- Simmer the patties in the gravy. Once the gravy has thickened, return the beef patties to the skillet. Spoon some gravy over the patties, cover the skillet, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the patties to soak up the gravy and become tender.
- Serve. Once the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened, remove from heat. Serve the Salisbury steak with the rich onion gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish. Enjoy this comforting, flavorful meal!
