Instructions
- Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
- Mix the dough. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with the powdered sugar and salt until light and fluffy. This process helps to incorporate air into the dough, giving the cookies a tender texture. Once the butter mixture is fluffy, beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
- Incorporate the flour. Gradually beat in the flour, mixing just until the dough comes together. The dough should be soft and easy to press, but not overly sticky.
- Separate for coloring (optional). If you want to make colorful cookies, divide the dough into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each portion. Mix the food coloring in until you reach your desired color.
- Shape the cookies. Use a cookie press to shape the dough into fun designs on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure to space the cookies about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading during baking.
- Bake the cookies. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes. The cookies should be firm to the touch and lightly golden on the edges, but they should not brown. Keep an eye on them to prevent overbaking.
- Cool and serve. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. These cookies are perfect for holiday cookie trays, or just a sweet snack anytime!
