Classic Spritz Cookies (Buttery & Festive)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  2. Mix the dough. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with the powdered sugar and salt until light and fluffy. This process helps to incorporate air into the dough, giving the cookies a tender texture. Once the butter mixture is fluffy, beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth.
  3. Incorporate the flour. Gradually beat in the flour, mixing just until the dough comes together. The dough should be soft and easy to press, but not overly sticky.
  4. Separate for coloring (optional). If you want to make colorful cookies, divide the dough into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each portion. Mix the food coloring in until you reach your desired color.
  5. Shape the cookies. Use a cookie press to shape the dough into fun designs on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure to space the cookies about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading during baking.
  6. Bake the cookies. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes. The cookies should be firm to the touch and lightly golden on the edges, but they should not brown. Keep an eye on them to prevent overbaking.
  7. Cool and serve. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. These cookies are perfect for holiday cookie trays, or just a sweet snack anytime!
