Instructions
- Cook the Meat & Veggies:
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage or ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once browned, add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté until the vegetables are softened and the meat is fully cooked, about 5–7 minutes. Season with garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. - Assemble the Pizza Bowl:
- Bowl method: Divide the meat and veggie mixture between two microwave-safe bowls.
- Pan method: Spread the mixture evenly in a small baking dish or oven-safe skillet.
- Add Sauce and Cheese:
Spoon pizza sauce evenly over the meat layer. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese and add your favorite optional toppings (like pepperoni slices, olives, banana peppers, or spinach) to customize your pizza bowl. - Melt the Cheese:
- Microwave: Heat bowls in the microwave for 1–2 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Oven: Place the pan under the broiler on high for 3–5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
- Serve:
Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or red pepper flakes. This dish pairs well with a crisp green salad or low-carb garlic breadsticks.
Tips & Variations
- Vegetarian Version: Use sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, and olives as the main filling instead of meat. Add extra cheese for richness.
- Dairy-Free Option: Use a dairy-free cheese alternative and skip or replace the mozzarella with a vegan blend.
- Make Ahead: Cook the meat and veggie base in advance and refrigerate. When ready to eat, top with sauce and cheese and reheat.
