Deep-Dish Hamburger, Sausage & Pepperoni Pie

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Crust

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a deep-dish pie plate or cast-iron skillet with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Roll out one of the pie crusts and fit it into the bottom and sides of the dish. Brush lightly with melted butter for extra crispness. Set aside.

2️⃣ Cook the Meat Filling

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the remaining butter. Add the ground beef and sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until browned.
  2. Add the diced onion and garlic, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant and softened.
  3. Drain excess grease, then stir in the pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

3️⃣ Assemble the Pie

  1. Spread half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the bottom crust.
  2. Pour the meat mixture evenly over the cheese layer.
  3. Add the pepperoni slices on top of the meat layer, then sprinkle with remaining cheese and Parmesan.
  4. Place the second pie crust over the top. Trim any excess dough, then pinch or crimp the edges to seal.
  5. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Brush with beaten egg for a golden finish.

4️⃣ Bake the Pie

  1. Place the pie on the middle rack and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  2. Let rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing — this allows the cheesy layers to set beautifully.
