Ingredients
- 4 glazed yeast donuts, cut in half horizontally (for a sweet, fluffy base)
- 4 slices thick-cut bacon (for a savory, crispy element)
- 4 slices cheese (cheddar, American, or gouda recommended for a rich, melty filling)
- Maple syrup (for drizzling, adding a sweet, rich finish)
- Butter (for grilling the sandwiches and adding a crispy golden texture)
Instructions
- Cook the bacon: In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the bacon over medium heat until it’s crispy and golden, about 5-7 minutes. Flip the bacon occasionally to ensure even cooking. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease. Set aside.
- Prepare the donuts: Slice the glazed yeast donuts in half horizontally to create the « bread » for the sandwich. Be gentle to avoid crushing the donuts — you want to keep the fluffy, airy texture intact. Set aside the top and bottom halves of the donuts.
- Assemble the sandwich: Place a slice of cheese on the bottom half of each donut. Add two slices of crispy bacon on top of the cheese, making sure the bacon is evenly spread across the donut. Top with the other half of the donut to form a sandwich. Repeat this step for all four sandwiches.
- Grill the sandwich: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the pan. Once the butter has melted and the pan is hot, carefully place the donut sandwiches in the skillet. Grill the sandwiches, pressing gently with a spatula to help them cook evenly, for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the donuts are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted. Be sure to flip the sandwiches carefully to avoid the filling spilling out.
- Finish with maple syrup: Once the sandwiches are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the skillet and place them on a cutting board. Drizzle each sandwich with maple syrup for a sweet, rich finish. You can either drizzle it over the top or serve the syrup on the side for dipping.
- Serve: Slice the Donut Grilled Cheese Bacon Maple sandwiches in half or quarters for easy serving, and enjoy this sweet and savory treat while it’s still warm. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a fun snack!
