4. Make the Gravy
- Push the beef mixture to one side of the skillet, creating an open area on the other side. Add the butter to the empty portion and allow it to melt fully. Sprinkle the flour directly into the melted butter and whisk or stir continuously to form a smooth roux. Let it cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly begin pouring in the beef broth while stirring constantly. This gradual addition helps prevent lumps and allows the roux to thicken the liquid evenly. Once the broth is added, mix everything together so the beef and aromatics are fully combined with the forming gravy.
5. Simmer & Season
- Add the Worcestershire sauce and the dried thyme if using. Season lightly with salt and pepper, remembering that flavors will intensify as the gravy simmers. Let the mixture cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens to your preferred consistency and coats the spoon.
