Instructions
- Start by preparing the matcha. In a small bowl, add 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder. Matcha powder can sometimes clump, so using a sifter or whisking it vigorously can help ensure a smooth, lump-free base for your latte.
- Next, pour in 2 tablespoons of hot water (just below boiling, around 175°F or 80°C) into the matcha powder. Use a small whisk or matcha whisk to vigorously stir the matcha and water together. Whisk in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and a small froth has formed on top. This step is essential to achieving that smooth and creamy texture without any powdery bits.
- In a separate small saucepan or microwave-safe cup, heat 1/2 cup of milk (dairy or plant-based) over medium heat or microwave until warm. If you’re using a plant-based milk like oat, almond, or soy, choose one that has a naturally creamy texture for the best results.
- Once the milk is heated, pour it into the matcha mixture. You can choose to either stir the milk in for a more subtle blending or froth the milk before adding it to the matcha for a creamy, foamy texture. If you prefer a frothy latte, use a milk frother or whisk the milk vigorously until frothy.
