Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the Onions:
- Peel the onions and trim the pointy top off each one, leaving the root end intact to hold the petals together.
- Place the onion root-side down. Starting at the top, carefully make 4 evenly spaced vertical cuts downward toward the root (without cutting through it), then make additional cuts between those to form petals.
- Gently separate the layers to help the onion “bloom.”
2️⃣ Prepare the Breading Stations:
- In one bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
- Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl for coating.
3️⃣ Bread the Onions:
- Dip each onion into the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to coat inside the petals.
- Next, dip it into the egg and buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off.
- Finally, coat it evenly in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
