Ravioli Casserole with Layers of Cheese and Meat Sauce

Once everything is prepared, it’s time to assemble the casserole. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce mixture on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Then, layer half of the cooked ravioli on top of the sauce. Spoon half of the remaining meat sauce over the ravioli, spreading it evenly with a spoon. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese on top of the sauce.

Repeat the layers: add the remaining ravioli, top with the remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. The cheese will melt and form a delicious, gooey topping as the casserole bakes.

Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. If you like the top extra crispy, you can broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes at the end, keeping a close eye on it to avoid burning.

Serving Suggestions

Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the layers set and make it easier to serve. Serve the Ravioli Casserole with a side of garlic bread and a fresh salad for a complete meal. You can also drizzle with extra marinara sauce or top with fresh basil for added flavor and color.

Make-Ahead & Storage

This casserole is perfect for meal prep. You can assemble the casserole up to a day in advance, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate it until ready to bake. If you’re short on time, you can also freeze the assembled casserole for up to 2-3 months. Just be sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil. When ready to bake from frozen, allow it to thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or oven.

Tips

  • If you want to add extra veggies to the casserole, you can stir in some sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers with the meat sauce mixture.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce or top with sliced jalapeños before baking.
  • To add a crunchy topping, sprinkle some breadcrumbs over the top before the final 10 minutes of baking for a crispy, golden crust.
