Sloppy Joe Casserole with Manwich Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 medium onion, diced (for a savory base)
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced (for color and flavor)
  • 1 can (15 oz) Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce (the secret to quick, flavorful sloppy joes)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (for a melty, cheesy topping)
  • 2 cups cooked rice (for the base of the casserole, you can also use cooked pasta or potatoes)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing the vegetables)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for a crunchy topping)

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: To the same skillet, add the diced onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened and the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Mix in the Manwich sauce: Add the can of Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce to the meat and vegetable mixture. Stir to combine, then simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the skillet from heat.
  4. Assemble the casserole: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish, spread the cooked rice evenly on the bottom. Pour the sloppy joe mixture over the rice, spreading it out evenly. Top with the shredded cheddar cheese, and if desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for added crunch.
  5. Bake the casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. If you added breadcrumbs, they should be golden and crispy on top.
  6. Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Slice into portions and enjoy this comforting, cheesy, and savory dish!
