Southern Sausage Biscuits Recipe

  1. Serve the sausage biscuits: Serve the Southern Sausage Biscuits warm, right out of the oven for the best taste and texture. They can be enjoyed on their own, paired with a hot cup of coffee, or served alongside scrambled eggs or grits for a hearty Southern breakfast. If desired, you can slice the biscuits in half and top with extra sausage gravy for an even more indulgent meal. These biscuits are also great for making breakfast sandwiches—just add a fried egg and more cheese for a filling, on-the-go breakfast.

Notes

  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute it with regular milk mixed with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes to thicken before using.
  • For extra flavor, feel free to add a pinch of cayenne pepper or some finely chopped herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) into the biscuit dough.
  • Leftover sausage biscuits can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or they can be refrigerated for up to 5 days. To reheat, simply wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave for about 20-30 seconds, or reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10-12 minutes.
