Directions
- Prepare the Cereal
- In a large mixing bowl, pour in the 5 cups of Rice Chex cereal and set aside. Make sure the cereal is evenly distributed in the bowl for easy coating later.
- Melt the White Chocolate Mixture
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted, about 1-2 minutes total.
- Once melted, stir in the teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Coat the Cereal
- Pour the melted white chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal. Use a spatula to gently toss and coat the cereal evenly, making sure each piece is covered with the creamy chocolate mixture.
- Mix the Powdered Sugar and Strawberry Jello
- In a separate bowl, combine the strawberry jello mix and powdered sugar. Stir until the mixture is well combined and free of lumps.
- Coat the Cereal in the Sugar Mixture
- Transfer the coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag. Add the strawberry jello and powdered sugar mixture into the bag.
- Seal the bag tightly and shake it vigorously until the cereal is completely coated in the jello and sugar mixture. Make sure all the pieces are evenly covered.
- Cool and Set
- Spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet in an even layer to allow it to cool and harden. This will only take about 10-15 minutes, depending on the room temperature.
- Optional Garnish
- If desired, sprinkle the crushed freeze-dried strawberries on top of the cooled cereal for an extra burst of flavor and a beautiful presentation.
- Store and Serve
- Once the Puppy Chow has cooled and hardened, transfer it to an airtight container for storage. Enjoy this treat immediately or store for up to a week.
