Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20 or leaner if preferred for a juicy, flavorful filling)
- 1 small onion, finely diced (for savory flavor)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (to add depth of flavor)
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix (for easy seasoning, or use homemade taco seasoning)
- ½ cup water (for the taco seasoning mix)
- 4 large flour tortillas (for wrapping the filling)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for a cheesy melt)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for a gooey texture)
- Optional toppings: sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, or salsa
Instructions
- Cook the beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess grease, then add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is softened and the garlic is fragrant.
- Season the beef: Add the taco seasoning mix and ½ cup of water to the beef mixture. Stir well to combine, and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and the beef is fully coated in the seasoning. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Prepare the tortillas: While the beef mixture is simmering, heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for about 20-30 seconds until warm and pliable. This makes them easier to fold and roll without tearing.
- Assemble the burritos: Lay the warmed tortillas flat on a clean surface. Spoon about ¼ of the beef mixture onto the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with a generous amount of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese, making sure it’s evenly distributed.
- Roll the burritos: Fold in the sides of the tortillas, then roll them tightly from the bottom up to enclose the filling. Be sure to roll them snugly to keep everything inside.
- Toast the burritos (optional): For extra crispiness and a melty cheese center, you can heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat and lightly toast the burritos for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Serve your Taco Bell-inspired Beefy Melt Burritos with your favorite toppings like sour cream, lettuce, salsa, or tomatoes. Enjoy these tasty, cheesy burritos with a side of chips or a refreshing drink!
