Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (15 oz) sloppy joe sauce (or homemade sauce)
- 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once the beef is fully cooked and no longer pink, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and the onion becomes translucent. The peppers and onion will add flavor and texture to the sloppy joe mixture.
- Stir in the sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- While the meat and sauce mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake according to the package instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
