Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (15 oz) sloppy joe sauce (or homemade sauce)
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once the beef is fully cooked and no longer pink, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and the onion becomes translucent. The peppers and onion will add flavor and texture to the sloppy joe mixture.
  3. Stir in the sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  4. While the meat and sauce mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake according to the package instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
