Warm Baked Apple Fritters with Sweet Glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure the fritters bake evenly and don’t stick.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well blended. These dry ingredients will form the base of the batter, giving the fritters their structure and flavor.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth. These wet ingredients will create the moist base for the fritter batter.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until everything is just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the fritters dense.
  5. Fold in the apples. Gently fold the diced apples into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  6. Shape the fritters. Using a spoon, drop mounds of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Shape each mound into small rounds, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Make sure to space the fritters about 2 inches apart, as they will expand slightly while baking.
  7. Bake the fritters. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown on the outside and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The aroma of cinnamon and apples will fill your kitchen as they bake!
  8. Make the glaze. While the fritters are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Adjust the milk as needed to achieve your desired glaze consistency. It should be smooth and pourable, but not too runny.
  9. Drizzle and serve. Once the fritters are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top of each fritter. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
