In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat. Add the chopped cooked bacon and diced onion to the skillet, cooking for another 3-4 minutes, or until the onions are softened. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything until well combined. Set the mixture aside.
Prepare the grilled cheese layer: While the beef and bacon mixture is cooling, prepare the grilled cheese sandwiches. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat. Butter one side of each slice of bread with the melted butter. Place a slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of four slices of bread, then top each with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing out. Grill the sandwiches in the pan for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Once grilled, cut each sandwich into quarters or halves, depending on your preference.
Assemble the casserole: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish. Spread the beef and bacon mixture evenly in the bottom of the dish. Then, layer the grilled cheese sandwiches on top of the beef mixture, arranging them to cover the entire surface. If needed, cut some of the sandwiches to fit the dish perfectly.
Bake the casserole: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and heated through. The top of the casserole will become golden and slightly crispy from the grilled cheese sandwiches.
Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. This will make it easier to cut into portions. Serve hot, and enjoy this cheesy, bacon-filled twist on a classic cheeseburger and grilled cheese!
