Big Mac Smash Tacos Recipe

Ingredients

For the Smash Tacos:

  • 4 small flour tortillas
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended for juiciness)
  • 4 slices American cheese (or cheddar, if preferred)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil (for cooking the beef)

For the Big Mac Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish

Instructions

  1. Start by making the Big Mac sauce. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, ketchup, white wine vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and pickle relish. Stir until smooth and well-combined. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more sugar for sweetness or more mustard for tang. Set the sauce aside in the refrigerator while you prepare the tacos.
  2. Next, heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef to the pan. Break the beef apart using a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Season the beef with salt and pepper to taste. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s browned and fully cooked through.
  3. Once the beef is cooked, take small portions of the beef and press them into the pan to create thin, smashed patties. Let the patties cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy and browned. This step adds texture and flavor, mimicking the crispy edges of a burger patty.
  4. While the beef is cooking, heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or on a griddle for about 30 seconds on each side, just until they’re warm and soft. You can also wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave them for 20-30 seconds to warm them up.
