Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (for a rich, buttery toffee coating)
- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark, for the sweet toffee flavor)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for added depth of flavor)
- 5 cups mini pretzels (for the base — either square or twist-shaped pretzels work well)
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for drizzling over the top for extra richness)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent the toffee from sticking.
- Prepare the pretzels: Arrange the mini pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are spread out evenly so that the toffee will coat each one.
- Make the toffee coating: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar and stir until fully combined. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. The toffee should thicken slightly. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Coat the pretzels: Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels, making sure each pretzel is well-coated. Use a spoon or spatula to gently toss the pretzels in the toffee mixture, ensuring they’re all covered. Be careful, as the toffee will be very hot.
- Bake the pretzels: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly and the pretzels are golden brown. Keep a close eye on them to avoid burning the toffee. Once baked, remove the sheet from the oven and allow the pretzels to cool for a few minutes.
- Optional chocolate drizzle: If you’d like to add a chocolate drizzle, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the pretzels using a spoon or a piping bag for a decorative touch. Let the chocolate set before serving.
- Cool and serve: Allow the toffee pretzels to cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, break them apart (if needed) and serve. These treats are perfect for snacking, gifting, or bringing to a party!
