Ingredients
- 8–12 slices of soft white bread (crusts removed)
- 4 tbsp softened butter
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
- Maple syrup or powdered sugar (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Begin by removing the crusts from the slices of soft white bread. Use a sharp knife to cut them off or simply press gently to remove the crusts if you prefer. You can save the crusts for making breadcrumbs or croutons, or discard them.
- Using a rolling pin or your hands, gently flatten each slice of bread. Flattening the bread makes it easier to roll up and ensures that the cinnamon-sugar filling will spread evenly inside. Be careful not to flatten the bread too much, just enough to make it pliable without tearing.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Stir until the mixture is smooth and spreadable. The brown sugar adds a rich sweetness and the cinnamon brings the warm, aromatic flavor that makes these roll-ups irresistible.
- Spread a thin layer of the cinnamon-sugar mixture onto each slice of flattened bread, ensuring an even coating across the entire surface. Be sure to leave a small border around the edges to make rolling easier and avoid spilling the filling during cooking.
- Once the bread is coated with the cinnamon-sugar mixture, tightly roll up each slice, starting from one end. Pinch the ends slightly to seal in the filling. You should now have little cinnamon-sugar roll-ups, similar to mini cinnamon rolls.
