Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. This ensures the dry ingredients are well combined and helps prevent lumps in the batter.
- Add the Wet Ingredients
- Add the egg, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together using a spatula or an electric mixer on low speed until just combined. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to incorporate all the ingredients.
- Add the Boiling Water
- Gradually add the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but this is normal and helps create a moist, tender cake.
- Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Tap the pan gently on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Be careful not to overbake; the cake should remain soft and moist.
- Cool the Cake
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or serving.
- Serve and Enjoy
- Once the cake has cooled, frost it with your favorite chocolate frosting, whipped cream, or serve it plain with a dusting of powdered sugar. Slice and enjoy!
