Fresh Orange Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two or three 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy—about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the orange zest and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients with the orange juice and buttermilk into the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Mix gently just until combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
