1️⃣ Prepare the Oven and Pan
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and lightly flour a 9×13-inch (23×13 cm) cake pan. Set aside.
2️⃣ Make the Cake Batter
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Fold in the sour cream and vanilla extract using a spatula until smooth.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined and smooth—do not overmix.
3️⃣ Create the Marble Effect
- Divide the batter evenly into two bowls.
- Stir the cooled melted chocolate into one half, and the sifted cocoa powder into the other half.
- Spoon dollops of each batter alternately into the prepared pan.
- Use a fork or knife to gently swirl the batters together for a marbled pattern (avoid overmixing).
