While the meat sauce is simmering, prepare the cheese filling. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth and well combined. This mixture will form the creamy filling in the lasagna layers.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
Now, it’s time to assemble the lasagna. Start by spreading a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. This will help prevent the noodles from sticking. Layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, overlapping slightly if needed.
Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese over the meat sauce. Repeat this layering process with the remaining noodles, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. For the final layer, top with the remaining noodles, the last of the meat sauce, and a generous sprinkle of shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn’t touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is hot throughout. The edges should be golden and slightly crispy.
