Moist Marble Cake with Chocolate Drizzle

1. Make the Cake Batter

  1. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy—about 2–3 minutes. The mixture should appear pale and airy.
  2. Add eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to keep the batter smooth and uniform.
  3. Add vanilla: Mix in the vanilla extract just until incorporated.

2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. With the mixer on low, add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in two parts, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture.
  3. Mix until just combined—do not overmix, as this can make the cake dense.

3. Create the Marble Batter

  1. Scoop out about 1 cup of the vanilla batter into a small bowl.
  2. In a separate cup, stir the cocoa powder and hot water into a smooth paste.
  3. Stir the cocoa paste into the reserved vanilla batter to make your chocolate batter.
