👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Cake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9–10 inch (22–24 cm) round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the sugar, oil, and eggs for 1–2 minutes until pale and slightly thickened.
- Add the orange juice, milk, orange zest, vanilla, and optional orange flavoring. Stir gently to combine.
- Fold in the dry ingredients with a spatula until just combined — do not overmix.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
2️⃣ Prepare the Orange Syrup:
- In a small saucepan, combine orange juice, sugar, and vanilla.
- Heat gently over low heat for 2–3 minutes until sugar is dissolved. Let cool completely.
3️⃣ Make the Creamsicle Frosting:
- Using a hand or stand mixer, whip the cold heavy cream until it starts to thicken.
- Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and orange extract or juice.
- Continue whipping until medium peaks form (light and fluffy, but still spreadable).
- Gently fold in the orange zest with a spatula.
