Ingredients
- For the French Toast Rolls:
- 8 slices of white bread (or any bread of your choice)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky, based on preference)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (or chopped Reese’s cups for extra flavor)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for the cinnamon-sugar coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the cinnamon-sugar coating)
- Butter, for frying
- For the Topping (optional):
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Chocolate syrup or melted chocolate (for drizzling)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Start by removing the crusts from the 8 slices of white bread. You can use a knife to cut off the edges, or if you’re feeling adventurous, simply tear them off with your hands for a more rustic approach. After removing the crusts, flatten each slice of bread using a rolling pin. This makes it easier to roll up and ensures that all the peanut butter and chocolate goodness stays inside.
- Fill the Rolls: Spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter evenly over each slice of bread. Be generous with the peanut butter—this is what makes the rolls so delicious. Then, sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of chocolate chips (or chopped Reese’s cups) on top of the peanut butter. Roll each slice of bread tightly into a small log, making sure the filling stays inside. Repeat with the remaining slices of bread to make a total of 8 peanut butter cup-filled rolls.
- Make the French Toast Coating: In a shallow bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs, 1/4 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully combined. This egg mixture will coat the rolls and help them form that golden, crispy exterior when fried. In another shallow dish, combine 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. This will be sprinkled over the rolls once they’re cooked, adding a delicious sweetness and hint of spice to each bite.
- Fry the Rolls: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the surface. Dip each peanut butter cup roll into the egg mixture, making sure to coat it fully. Once coated, carefully place the roll into the hot skillet. Fry the rolls for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. You may need to add more butter to the skillet as you fry the rolls to ensure they cook evenly.
- Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar: After removing the rolls from the skillet, immediately roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating them evenly. This adds a perfect touch of sweetness and spice to complement the peanut butter and chocolate filling.
- Serve and Garnish: Arrange the Peanut Butter Cup French Toast Rolls on a serving plate. For an extra indulgent treat, dust the rolls with powdered sugar and drizzle them with chocolate syrup or melted chocolate. The chocolate drizzle makes them even more irresistible and adds to that Reese’s-inspired flavor. Serve them warm and enjoy the peanut butter, chocolate, and crispy French toast combination!
