Ravioli Casserole with Layers of Cheese and Meat Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 (25 oz) bag frozen cheese ravioli
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or a small amount of olive oil to prevent the casserole from sticking.
  2. In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 6-8 minutes, or until the beef is browned and fully cooked through. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to prevent the casserole from being greasy.
  4. Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet with the beef mixture, stirring to combine. Let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld together. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or Italian seasoning if needed.
  5. While the beef and sauce simmer, cook the frozen ravioli according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain the ravioli and set aside. Make sure not to overcook the ravioli, as they will continue to cook in the oven.
