Instructions
- Begin by adding 8 cups of chicken or turkey broth to your slow cooker. The broth will serve as the flavorful base of your soup. Choose a good-quality broth, as it provides the foundation for the soup’s richness. If you don’t have homemade broth, store-bought works just fine.
- Add the 2 cups of cooked, shredded turkey to the slow cooker. If you have leftover turkey from a previous meal, this is a great way to use it up. The shredded turkey will absorb the flavors of the broth and spices as it cooks, becoming tender and flavorful.
- Next, add the 2 carrots, sliced. Carrots provide a slight sweetness and texture to the soup, balancing the savory flavors. You can also add 2 stalks of sliced celery, which will add a mild flavor and extra crunch. For added depth, you can include 1 diced onion and 2 cloves of minced garlic. These aromatic ingredients will enhance the overall flavor profile of the soup.
- Season the soup with 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, which adds an herby warmth to the broth. If you enjoy bay leaves, add 1 bay leaf to the pot for an extra layer of flavor. Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep in mind that the broth may already contain some salt, so start with a little and adjust as needed.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The soup will be ready when the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together. The slow cooking process allows all of the ingredients to blend, creating a rich, comforting broth.
