👩🍳 Directions
1️⃣ Prepare the Batter
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Make sure there are no lumps in the cocoa powder to ensure a smooth batter.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, whisking until a thick, smooth batter forms. Scrape down the sides to incorporate all the flour.
- Slowly pour in the hot water or coffee and stir until fully combined. The batter will become thinner at this stage—that’s normal and helps achieve a moist, tender crumb after baking.
2️⃣ Bake the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan (8 or 9 inches), or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula to ensure even baking.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and let it cool completely before topping with ganache.
3️⃣ Make the Ganache
- Place the finely chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer—do not let it boil.
- Pour the warm cream over the chocolate and let it sit undisturbed for 1–2 minutes to begin melting.
- Using a whisk or spatula, gently stir the mixture from the center outward until the ganache is glossy and smooth.
- Add the butter and stir until fully incorporated. This adds richness and gives the ganache a luxurious shine.
